The popularity of certain unique small guesthouses the world over comes largely from the charm of those who run them. Casa del Mundo is no exception. When you arrive at Casa del Mundo for your vacation, you will be greeted with a welcoming meal by Sana & Papo Nickel, a warm and interesting couple. They will show you around and make sure that you have everything you need at all times during your stay. Despite your exotic surroundings, you'll soon feel completely at home. From December to May, Sana & Papo reside on their farm, Finca Guaraguao, in the south central mountains of Puerto Rico (Barrio Barreal de Peñuelas), where for the past 24 years they have nurtured a close relationship with the surrounding “campesino” community through the development and encouragement of ecological agriculture, environmental projects, intercultural exchanges and sustainable eco-tourism. From February to April, they open their farm for eco-tourism, when accommodation is available in Casa del Mundo and for campers. January is also available for those wishing to do meditation retreat. Papo’s love for organic gardening and sustainable land management finds him immersed in plantings and trail-blazing around the property, continuously enhancing the groundwork for sustainable eco-tourism. Both Papo & Sana teach meditation classes at the Unity church in the city of Ponce (about an hour's drive away). One weekend in March every year, Sana & Papo host a meditation retreat with Kadam Morten Clausen at their Peace Pavillion, El Caney. During the remainder of the year, Sana & Papo perform as the duo, TAINO, as Artists-in-Education, mostly in the NYC area, presenting bilingual programs with various themes such as Latin American music and culture (inspired by a 5-year journey they took through Central & South America), rainforest themes and other. The couple also continuously explore their musical ideas, integrating superb Puerto Rican musicians into their projects and island performances as the world music ensemble: “CLAVE MUNDIAL.” |
